The Winter Queen

I've started this blog post multiple times, but I could never quite figure out what I wanted to say. But today as I sit by the warm fire with a warming pad across my lap I was inspired to give it another try.

The Winter Queen shoot was inspired by the velvet gown I have in my client closet. The gown is technically a gown designed for maternity pictures, but when I saw it I thought of so much more! I could see it used for high fashion, glamour, and even non traditional bridal. I knew the gown could go from a very regal feeling to a wicked vibe quite easily. For the winter queen shoot I wanted to focus on those regal feelings.

I originally had this idea of the winter queen being more of a winter wedding elopement shoot. When Beth tried on the dress I knew she was perfect for the shoot and when her hubby agreed to join in I felt the elopement shoot starting to come together.

I knew I wanted a bouquet of greenery and a woodsy feeling crown. Those are both highly technical terms, greenery and woodsy. I pulled pieces from my client closet, like the gold harness and the dress (obviously) and even dove in to my husbands closet for the jacket for the groom. All that was left was the location, which I knew I wanted Flat Creek Public Fishing Area for that old house and the lake.

Once the shoot started it took a turn from elopement and the focus was on the Winter Queen, Beth. I could see the confidence building with each new idea and location. She embraced every aspect of the Winter Queen and went for it! I am so happy I let the shoot evolve well past what I had planned. It was more than worth it!
